Our Story

Swiss Chalet was founded in 1954 in Toronto, Canada, with a simple mission: to serve delicious, high-quality fried chicken that would bring families together. Our founder, Walter Schiesser, brought his Swiss culinary expertise to Canada and created a unique recipe that blended European cooking techniques with North American flavors.

What began as a single family-owned restaurant has grown into one of Canada's most beloved dining establishments, with over 230 locations across the country. Despite our growth, we've stayed true to our roots – every piece of chicken is still prepared with the same care and attention to detail as it was in 1954.
